Candy Cane Cookies
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1 t. vanilla
1 t. peppermint extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 t. salt
red food coloring
powdered sugar glaze
crushed peppermint candy
Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg, vanilla and flavorings. Add flour and salt and mix until well blended.
Roll into a ball and divide in half. Color one half with red food coloring. Pinch off 1 t. of dough from each half, roll into ropes, join white with red and gently roll together, spiraling as you go, shape into a cane and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes. Remove to racks and cool completely. Spread a thin layer of icing over top of cane and sprinkle with peppermint candy.
